Have you ever struggled with surrendering and letting go? If so, keep reading!
Have you ever felt the need to let go and surrender to the unknown but not sure how? I can relate because that was me earlier this year.
After going through our miscarriage in February, I felt lost and hopeless. Everything felt out of my control which made me even more upset. And then a sweet friend reminded me that I needed to surrender.
So what is surrendering?
To put it simply, surrendering is letting go of control. When you let go of that control, you trust in something that is outside of yourself. You trust that a higher power (whether you want to call that God, Source, Universe, Yahweh) has everything in control.
As humans, we are wired to want to control everything that is going on in our lives. That is why we have things like routines and schedules. But when things become out of our control, it is easy to get worked up and unsure what to do or where to turn. However, when you surrender your struggles, you can release all of the things that no longer serve you.
Not to mention, when you start having faith and trusting when you are surrendering, that is when the real magic happens.
Having Faith & Trust
As mentioned above, even if you are not super religious, having faith and trust in something outside of yourself is so important. Believe me, friend, I know having faith and trust is not the easiest thing, especially if you struggle with trust issues. But when you do, here are some things that you can expect:
- Feeling Lighter
Feeling lighter is a result of feeling like a weight is lifted off your shoulders. From time to time, there may be some lingering heaviness that feels like it weighs you down, but once again, have faith, trust, and let go.
2. Changed Priorities
Once you surrender, you may notice that your priorities may change. Things that seemed important to you before won’t serve you as much as they did. Or, in some cases, your priorities change entirely altogether. Whether this does or doesn’t happen for you, know that it is normal either way!
Miracles are one of the best things that you may find happen to you. When you surrender, miracles have a way of entering into your life more effortlessly. I’m not sure why or how it happens, but I know it happens every time that surrender and trust everything is working out as it should.
Affirmations for you to use
When you are in a period of surrender, what I have found helps is affirmations. Affirmations are statements that you believe (or convincing yourself to believe) are true.
The cool thing about your brain is that it doesn’t know the difference between a truth or a lie. So when you say affirmations every day, your brain will re-wire neural pathways until you truly believe that statement to be true without a doubt. So with that said, here are five affirmations to use when you are going through a season of surrender.
“I have faith and trust that everything is happening for me.”
“I fully trust in divine timing.”
“Everything is happening for a reason, even if I don’t know what that reason is in the current moment.”
“I effortlessly attract miracles into my life.”
“I choose to let go of what no longer serves my highest self and me.”
Tangible Way of Letting Go
One tool I have recently used to learn to let go and surrender is using a God Box.
A God Box is a small box from Michaels with a bible quote on the outside. Inside the box, I have a pen and notepad. When everything feels out of my control, I write my current fears, worries, and doubts on the pad. Then, once I have finished writing, I rip off the sheet of paper and keep it in the box. This exercise is my way of surrendering my fears, worries, and doubts to God and letting Him take them.
If you are going through a season of surrender, I highly recommend using the affirmations and God Box on your journey of letting go and having faith and trust.
