If you are are a photographer, you have probably heard one time or another that the market for photographers is “over-saturated.” But what if I told you it wasn’t? Let’s dive in!
If you live in a pretty populated area, you have probably heard a photographer friend say this at one time or another.
Then the fear starts to creep in. How can you stand a chance putting your photography business out there when there are already a ton of photographers? Here is how!
Here are 3 ways to reframe your mindset when it comes to an “over-saturated” market for photographers.
When you are in an area with a lot of photographers nearby, you have to remember that there are more than enough clients to go around. Even some clients enjoy going to multiple photographers!
With that said, you can’t compare yourself to another photographer. There is a good chance that they are marketing to a different audience than you. Comparing yourself to another photographer is like comparing apples to oranges. They are both fruit (in this case photographers) but are totally different.
And in case you haven’t been reminded, that leads us to number 2!
To better explain this, I thought I would reference a Dr. Suess quote,
“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”
As silly as the quote may sound, this couldn’t ring more true! At the end of the day, you are not like anybody else-even if you have a twin! You have a mind of your own, and a personality of your own. So as a photographer, there is nobody out there who is like you!
You give an experience that is like none other. Could you be the same as everyone else? I guess. But you shouldn’t want to blend in with everyone else, or a sea of photographers. As they say, “only dead fish, go with the flow.”
You have so much light in you! Shine your light! Speaking of shining your light that leads to number 3!
What’s the fun in blending in with everyone else, when you were born to stand out from the crowd. You were born to be different, compared to everyone else. Perfectly crafted to live out your purpose and be yourself!
By standing out in the crowd, you are showing to your potential clients that “Hey I’m a really awesome photographer, this is what makes me different from everyone else-book me!”
How do you stand out in the crowd? Confidence! Unwavering confidence is the ultimate tool for booking out clients!
I really hope that you were able to get the confidence boost you need to stand out from the crowd and not fear to blend into the “over-saturated” market of photographers.
