Do you struggle with comparison? Do you look at other’s and think, “wow! I wish I could be like them!” If so, this article is for you!
Theodore Roosevelt once said, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” He was TOTALLY right! How many times have you been scrolling on Instagram, and a friend of yours posted an amazing caption or picture in their feed. Before you know it, you are spiraling down a rabbit hole of comparing yourself to your friend.
The comparison game. It is 100% real, and 100% sucks. There, I said it. It sucks. Even people like me who have been in the photography industry for nearly 5 years still compare myself to my peers. But luckily, you don’t need to stay in that mindset for very long.
In this blog post, we will go over the three tips on how to stop comparison! Let’s get started!
The moment you feel like you are about to spiral down the rabbit hole of comparing yourself to someone, get off your phone or computer. By making a conscious effort to stay away from your phone or computer for a short time, you are saving yourself so much energy that you can be used on other parts of your business.
Personally, I enjoy going outside and sitting on my patio. The warm sun and fresh air do wonders for my mood and, surprisingly, my energy.
The next thing you do? Grab your pen and notebook because we are about to go to step 2!
What are some positive things about you (like characteristics or personality) that makes you different and unique?
By writing down what makes you different from other people (especially those you compare yourself to), you start to realize what actually sets you apart. The more you write about what makes you different, the more you realize there is no comparison between you and the other person.
Not to mention, this exercise can also give you a bit of an ego boost (in a good way, of course!) Get ready because you may even feel a bit of confidence come over you and feel excited to step into your authenticity!
One exercise that you might find helpful is writing down affirmations and reading them out loud to yourself daily. Another idea is to take what you wrote down that makes you different and transfer it onto sticky notes and place them on your mirror. Every day, read what you put on these sticky notes out loud.
Affirmations are nothing more than affirming a belief in your subconscious mind. By seeing it daily and reading it out loud, you get the opportunity to feel the feelings and step into authenticity daily!
Fun fact, your subconscious doesn’t know the difference between truth or lie! So you might as well flood your subconscious mind with positive things!
