3 Ways to Set Boundaries Today

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to change your career multiple times? In this blog post, I tell you my personal experience of what I learned from changing my career path four times in a year.

four time career change, what to expect when I change careers, I want to change my career, changing my career, walking away from my career, advice, mindset

Like most people…

When the pandemic happened in 2020, I started re-evaluating what I wanted to do with my life. All of the time cooped up indoors really makes you think about your current life trajectory and what you want to do!

In November, I started asking myself questions regarding my career and what I wanted differently. Some of the questions I asked were…

Do I want to hustle my butt off doing photography and have my weekends full? Do I go into entirely unknown territory by starting a mindset coaching business? What would it look like to create a new business from scratch?

Although I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to start, I knew in 2021, I wanted to switch things up.

Switch things up; I did!

Not only did I switch my career one time, but I switched my career four times! Some may call it a quarter-life crisis, but I like to call it a journey of self-discovery!

Here are the four different career changes I tried on for size! Sticking with my photography business, started a mindset coaching business, joined a network marketing business, and now designing t-shirts!

You may notice a theme with all four of these businesses! The core theme of these four businesses is that I was self-employed. Partially because I wouldn’t say I like working for anyone else, and partly because I haven’t worked under any employer in the last five years.

Through these four career changes, I learned three lessons if you are thinking about switching careers for yourself!

I am thinking about changing my career, I changed my career, changing my career seems scary, I am questioning whether to change my career or not, is it time for a career change, mindset, advice
I don't know what path to take, I want to change my career, life path, career path, I changed my career four times, looking for a career change, mindset, advice

Lesson 1: Money motivation doesn’t last long

Three of these four career changes said if I work hard enough and hustle my butt off, eventually it will pay off, and I will make a TON of money! I mean, let’s face it! Who doesn’t want to make a ton of cash?!

But here is the thing. When I was only making a few extra dollars, the motivation didn’t last very long. I had a hard time finding meaning in the work that I did past the money. I longed to find meaning behind my career.

When I opened my heart and mind to doing something that I genuinely enjoyed doing without wondering how much money I make, that is when the game completely changed. I am finally doing something in my career where I can create from my soul like my soul had been craving; while simultaneously making MORE money because it’s something I’m so crazy passionate about.

Past the money motivation, lesson 2, I’m still currently learning!

I changed my career, I want to change my career, changing my career, what to expect when I change my career, advice, mindset, business, entrepreneur, life changing career, career path, life path

Lesson 2: NO ONE’S opinion matters

Along this journey of self-discovery, I have received a lot of flack. Whether it be family members or friends, they would make snarky remarks like “watch, I’ll give you a month” or “can’t you just make up your mind what you want to do?”

Here is the thing, at the end of the day, no one’s opinion truly matters. Whether it be a close friend, family member, or stranger, you have to do what’s right for you.

When I joined network marketing (but especially when I stopped network marketing,) many of the close friends in my life made “I told you so” and “Look, you failed again” remarks. At first, their words stung, but then soon realized, if I learned any lessons from trying out the career, I was never indeed a failure. So even though I did network marketing for a short time, I am insanely grateful for its lessons in what to do and what not to do in sales.

When you focus on doing you and not caring what others think, you can get farther in whatever career you choose because you are following your resonance. You are following your heart and whatever “feels good” at that time!

Finally, lesson number three!

I think I want to change my career, business women, work from home, entrepreneur, career is changing, changing careers, career paths, life path, life changing decisions, where do I go from here

Lesson 3: Do what your soul craves

As you are reading this, I want you to check in with yourself. If you could do anything right now at this moment, what would you do? Would you start writing a book? Start a side hustle? Work for another company?

So often, we go through the motions in life without truly going after what we want and doing the things that we actually want to do. Personally, I used to feel guilty wanting to do have a creative business because I always grew up with the “starving artist” mentality.

However, the minute I opened my heart and asked for a miracle to appear in my life where I could do something I truly enjoy doing, that’s when my latest opportunity fell on my lap.

Since then, I haven’t looked back. Instead of being in a space of “what if I don’t make enough” or “what if someone says something bad about me,” I followed what my soul wanted, which was a space to be creative!

The result? Being able to wake up every morning and get super excited that I choose to do what I love to do. Not feel like I “have to” or “got to” do anything. I wake up excited and ready to serve others by designing t-shirts for others to wear!
