3 Ways to Set Boundaries Today

Have you ever wondered what the secret to balancing motherhood and running a business is? If so, keep reading!

Balancing Motherhoood and Running a Business

Hey, Mama!

First of all, I want to honor you. The fact that you want to learn how to run a successful business while simultaneously wanting to be a present mom is HUGE!

Maybe you can relate!

Do you ever feel like when you are a mom, you are thinking about your business. Or when you are working in your business, you keep thinking about your kid(s)?

The great news is that you can achieve that balance between being a mom and running a successful business!

The secret to balancing motherhood and running a successful business is using my technique that I like to call the BEST Method!

The BEST Method

The B-E-S-T Method stands for boundaries, energy, self-development, and time management.

When you focus on these four categories and combine all of them, you can balance being a mom and running a business!

Let’s break each category down and what they mean!

B- Boundaries

The B in the BEST method stands for boundaries. Setting boundaries for yourself, others, and your business are essential to achieving balance in motherhood and business!

What does setting boundaries look like?

Here are a couple of examples of what setting boundaries look like!

Defining your priorities

What are your priorities? Why are they important?

When you define your priorities, you see what you value the most. For example, do you value family the most? Your business? Your time?

When you start to define what you value most, from there, you can begin to make more time for the things that you want to do so that you can live a more aligned life!

Speaking of alignment, another part of setting boundaries is learning to say “no” to what doesn’t feel good!

Saying “No” to what doesn’t feel good

Are you dreading doing something because it doesn’t feel good or in alignment? Chances are, you probably said “yes” to something that you didn’t want to do instead of saying “no.”

Saying “no” can be one of the most empowering things that you can do for yourself. When you say “no” to what you don’t want, you create space to do things you want to do! That you can say “yes” to!

Once you can say “yes” to what you want to do, you have more time to focus on your energy! (Which happens to be the “E” in the BEST Method!)

E- Energy

Tony Robbins once said, “Where focus goes, energy flows.” What this means is where you focus your energy, your energy will follow.

Your energy is similar to a phone battery! Every single day, you have a set amount of energy to use for the day (and even some that roll over to use for the next day!)

Similar to a battery, throughout the day, your energy can drain. Whether that be through people, jobs, school, what you eat, the list goes on and on! The goal, however, is to make sure that you keep your energy up!

So how do we focus on keeping our energy up? Here are some examples of ways to focus on your energy!

Self-Care

One of the best ways to get your energy back is by focusing on your self-care every day. Practicing self-care is so important, not only for yourself but so that you can show up in the world in the best way possible!

So what does self-care look like?

Some say bubble baths, but it goes even deeper than that. What are the things that fill you up and make you happy? Self-care can look like reading, exercising, journaling, meditating, and the list goes on and on.

To learn more about incorporating self-care into your daily routine, you can check that out here!

Next to self-care, another way to focus your energy is through a practice called embodiment.

Embodiment

If you could picture the best version of yourself, how would you look? What would you do differently than you are doing now?

Embodiment is showing up as the best version of yourself. The version of yourself that already has what they want in life. The version of yourself that you want and strive to be.

Start by writing down what the best version of yourself does daily?

When you focus your energy on embodying the version of yourself that you want to be, you become that version of yourself before too long.

S- Self-Development

What are you doing every single day to better yourself and your mind? The “S” in the BEST Method stands for self-development because you become an overall better mom and business owner when you better yourself.

Self-development can look like many things, but here are a couple of examples to start!

Journaling

So you might be wondering, what does journaling have anything to do with self-development. Well, journaling and self-development really go hand in hand.

Journaling is an awesome way to track your progress and how you are doing. Whenever you feel out of sorts or terrific, you can document how you feel inside of a journal.

Later on down the road, you can read past journal entries to see how far you have come.

Not only is it an amazing self-development exercise, but journaling is wonderful for self-care. It’s a safe space to dream, write down ideas, vent, and the list goes on and on.

Next to journaling, another great way to work on your self-development is by being conscious of what you are consuming!

What are you consuming?

Are you listening to audiobooks or podcasts daily? What tv shows are you watching? How much time do you spend on social media?

When you are conscious about what you consume, you become aware of what things may not serve you on your self-development journey.

For instance, if you only listen to crime and murder podcasts, it may not be as helpful for your business compared to a podcast about personal development or online marketing.

Another example is seeing how much time you are spending on social media. Watching Tik Tok or scrolling on Instagram can be fun, but consuming hours upon hours on it when you could be focusing on your family or business isn’t worth it in the grand scheme of things.

Every day you have the choice to choose yourself and better yourself. When you focus on self-development by becoming conscious of what you consume, you will be surprised how much you can tackle balancing motherhood and running a business.

Why is that? Because you gain awareness on how to spend your time better, which leads to the “T” in the BEST Method!

T- Time Management

Where are you spending most of your time? Is it scrolling social media or doing the thing that you want to do? The “T” in the BEST Method stands for time management because it is essential to balancing motherhood and running a business.

You can make all of the money in the world, but if you have no time for the things you love like family, hobbies, or even taking a vacation, is it worth it?

Time is a precious resource because there is not much of it. So when it comes to time management, the main objective is to make sure that you are getting your time back and not wasting it!

How do you get time back in your day? Here are a couple of examples that will help you with time management!

Batching your tasks

Typically, when you make cookies, you don’t make one cookie at a time; you make a batch! The same goes for batching tasks!

When you batch while working, you focus your energy on one thing and one thing only. For example, today, as I’m writing this, it is a batch day for blogs. I’m writing five blog posts to go out and schedule for this month!

Instead of jumping from task to task, you can maximize your time by directing your attention to one thing.

If you find that you don’t have enough time in the day to do a certain task, another great way to maximize your time is by outsourcing.

Outsourcing

When you outsource a task, you give it to someone who can equally do it just like you, if not better.

One of the best parts about outsourcing is that you can get so much more off your plate so that you have time to do the things you want to do.

For a business owner, outsourcing can look like hiring a virtual assistant to schedule pins for Pinterest. If you are a mom, outsourcing can look like hiring a house cleaner to clean the house twice a week.

One way that I outsource personally is by ordering food online to be picked up through Instacart. Not only does this save me hours per week grocery shopping, but I also save money not getting food I don’t need.

Balancing Motherhoood and Running a Business

Managing motherhood and running a business can seem a bit daunting and even challenging. But when you start using the BEST Method, you can effectively balance motherhood and successfully run a business.
